Jason Statham has revealed that it was the strength of the script and the characters that drew him to Homefront.
Statham will return to the big screen this week as he teams up with James Franco and director Gary Fleder.
The script has been penned by Statham's pal Sylvester Stallone and he has praised the strength of the writing.
Speaking to Digital Spy the actor said: "When I read it I just knew it was going to attract a lot of decent actors. The parts were fleshed-out, good and strong instead of it just being 'here's the hero, here's the bad guy'.
"This was an actual, interesting good story. I liked the relationship my character Broker has with his daughter, that was new for me.
"Sly writes in a really good voice, a lot of the stuff he's been recognised for are stories that have a lot of heart. That was the appeal.
"It's easy to forget how many films he's actually written. You look at his writing credits and think, 'Hang on, do you even have time to do anything else?' He's a prolific writer."
An all star cast has been assembled for Homefront as Statham and Franco are joined by Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder.
