Jared Leto has revealed that gaining weight for film roles is more difficult than losing it.
Leto is set to return to the big screen with Dallas Buyers Club; a movie that has seen him lose a staggering thirty pounds to play an AIDS sufferer.
But the actor admits that putting weight on to play Mark Chapman in Chapter 27 was more difficult.
Speaking to ShortListmagazine the actor said: "Gaining weight is far more difficult and damaging. It changes you so much, it's wild.
"For Chapter 27, I was drinking melted Häagen-Dazs, olive oil and soy sauce. Not fun. My cholesterol jumped up and they wanted to put me on Lipitor, a cholesterol drug for older people.
"To play Rayon, I just ate nothing for weeks. But I think both of them [weight loss and weight gain] are less about how they make you look, and more about how they make you feel."
Leto's performance in Dallas Buyers Club has been winning rave reviews, and he has already picked up the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe.
He is in the mix for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and is the favourite to win the prize.
Dallas Buyers Club marks the return of Leto to the big screen since Mr Nobody back in 2009.
Dallas Buyers Club is released 7th February.
