James Wan plans to bring "suspense" to 'Fast & Furious 7'.
The horror director - who is best known for helming 'Insidious' and 'The Conjuring' - will seek inspiration from his frightful film past to inject edge-of-your-seat thrills into the seventh film in the franchise.
He told Collider.com: "One of the things I would love to bring to it, having spent a lot of time in the horror/thriller/suspense genre is ... I love tension, I love suspense and hopefully I can bring that. That would be my style that I would love to bring to the 'Fast' franchise."
The filmmaker replaces Justin Lin - who directed the previous four films in the series - at the helm of the high octane speed-racing franchise, which stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and he is eager to put his own stamp on the movie.
He explained: "I want to respect and honour the world that they've created so far, which the fans love. They have crazy fans that love that franchise, so I want to honour that and make sure I don't mess that up too much. But at the same time I want to put my own stamp to it and kind of do what I do best, which is suspense and tension."
'Fast & Furious 7' is due in cinemas in July 2014.
