James McAvoy says he was thrilled at getting the chance to reinvent Charles Xavier in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
McAvoy is set to play Xavier for the second time in 2014, but hints that this version of the character is very different to the one that we saw in X-Men: First Class.
Speaking to Red Carpet News TV the actor said: "The personal pleasure for me in ‘First Class’ was presenting a Charles Xavier to the fans, but also a new audience, who’s very different from the Charles that you expected. But he was still very sort of ‘Everything’s going good!’
"In the second movie I get to present another version of Charles Xavier who’s still very different from the Charles that used to exist, but he’s also remarkably different from the Charles in ‘First Class’ as well.
"So what’s great is that even though it’s a sequel, even though it’s a franchise, I keep getting to reinvent Charles Xavier and that’s amazing."
X-Men: First Class was released back in 2011 and focused on the early life of Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Days of Future Past is the sequel to First Class and will see Xavier coming to terms with being in a wheelchair.
The movie will mix characters from First Class with actors from the original franchise including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman.
It has been a great week for McAvoy as he scooped the Best Actor gong at the British Independent Film Awards for his performance in Filth.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 22nd May 2014.
