James McAvoy has revealed that family is what is at the heart of X-Men: Apocalypse.
The actor is set to reprise the role of Charles Xavier next week when X-Men: Apocalypse hits the big screen. This will be the third X-Men film for McAvoy as he reunites with director Bryan Singer.
McAvoy walked the blue carpet at the premiere of X-Men:Apocalypse in London earlier this week where he talked about the scale and the themes of the film.
He said: "Action wise, it is much bigger. We are talking about the end of the world rather than just the end of mutant kind; we are talking about the end of everything. That is one way that we get it bigger.
"What I think really gives it power, is that it is about family. I think that all the X-Men movies have been about family to an extent, but this one is directly riffing off the fact that it is about family. We even talk about the fact that we realise that we are a family.
X-Men: Apocalypse will see McAvoy reunite with Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult, who will reprise their roles as Magneto, Mystique, and Beast.
This is the first X-Men film to hit the big screen since the success of The Days of Future Past two years ago, which brought together the cast of the current and original X-Men series.
As for McAvoy, this is the first time that we have seen him on the big screen since Victor Frankenstein but he has already completed work on the Coldest City and Split.
He is currently filming Submergence, which sees him star alongside Alicia Vikander and work with director Wim Wenders.
X-Men: Apocalypse is released 18th May.
