James Marsden has revealed that he is unable to predict which of his movies will be a success.
The actor is currently sitting at the top of the U.S. box office as part of the ensemble cast of Lee Daniels' The Butler.
And while Marsden has enjoyed huge success throughout his career he says he can never predict where the hits are going to come.
Speaking to Out magazine the actor said: "I never set out to make a bad movie," he said. "Some movies just turn out bad, and I want to scream, 'Why did you pick that take?'
"Then there are some movies that I've been in that I was sure people would laugh at, that have become huge.
"I thought The Notebook was going to be a schmaltzy Movie of the Week-type thing, and here we are!"
It has been a busy summer for the actor as he has also appeared in 2 Guns as well as comedy Bachelorette.
He has also completed work on Walk of Shame, The Loft and Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
However he will not be reprising the role of Cyclops in X-Men: Days of Future Past next year.
