The 57-year-old filmmaker is co-head of DC Studios along with Peter Safran and taking over the DC Cinematic Universe - which launched with Zack's 'Superman: Man of Steel' in 2013 and saw that phase end with 2023 sequel 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' - and after the 'Rebel Moon' director said he was "excited" about what was to come under the guidance of the pair, James revealed they have been in contact.

Zack told CBR about the future of the DCU: "You know, I’m a pretty open book. I really feel like, you know, if the characters are treated with reverence, and mythologically correct, then I’m down. I’m in.

“Let’s see what happens. I’m pretty excited. I mean, we’re going to get Superman pretty soon, so we’ll see what that’s like.”

A fan on Threads then asked James if he'd seen Zack's comments and he replied: “I didn’t, but I knew it already because he’s texted me. He’s been incredibly supportive throughout this process.”

In February, the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' filmmaker revealed he and Zack had been in contact.

He told a fan on X, formerly Twitter: “He contacted me to express his support about my choices. He’s a great guy. Again, he seems really happy with the massive world-building he’s doing now.”

The new phase of the DCU will kick off with 'Superman', which will star David Corenswet in the title role alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer. It is due for release on July 11, 2025.
