James Gunn has confirmed that the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy sequel will be called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.
Gunn - who is back directing and writing the sequel - took to Facebook to confirm the news after Kevin Feige mentioned the title in a recent interview with Collider.
Writing on a Facebook post, Gunn said: "Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
"Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I'm really happy about because God knows I've let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page.
"Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?' I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait. For Kevin to mess up. Haha."
Filming is set to get underway on the movie at the beginning of next year and it will hit the big screen in April 2017.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will be the first of three Marvel movies to be released in 2017 and will be followed by the Spider-Man solo movie and Thor: Ragnarok - the third film in the Thor solo franchise.
While no cast has officially been announced for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Dave Bautista are all expected to return.
It's going to be an exciting few years for Marvel with a host of sequels and brand new franchises on the horizon. Ant-Man is set to bring to a close Phase 2 later this summer and Captain America: Civil War will kick off Phase 3.
We are going to be introduced to the likes of Doctor Strange and Black Panther as we head towards the two Avengers - Infinity War movies in 2018 and 2019.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is released 28th April 2017.
