Rehearsals for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 are under way and director James Gunn has posted two great new behind the scenes images to his Facebook page.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista feature in the first as they are set to reprise the central roles of Peter Quill, Gamora, and Drax. The second image sees Michael Rooker take centre stage as he is set to return as Yondu Udonta.

Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel appear to not be involved at this stage of the movie - in fact, Diesel is away filming another project and it is unclear where he will fit into the second film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 sees Gunn back in the director's chair for the first time since he enjoyed critical and commercial success with the first movie.

No new additions to the cast list have yet been announced, but Kurt Russell has been linked to the role of Peter Quill's father.

Filming is set to start on the movie shortly and it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2017.

We were introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy characters for the first time in 2014 and the movie went on to gross in excess of $773 million at the global box office. It is currently the fourth highest grossing Marvel film, behind Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be the first of a trio of Marvel films to hit the big screen in 2017 and will be released ahead of Spider-Man and Thor: Ragnarok.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
