James Gunn says that Guardians of the Galaxy will be similar to other Marvel movies that have been released as well as being different.

Gunn is in the director's chair for the movie, which is due to start filming at the end of June.

It will be the first time that Guardians of the Galaxy has come to the big screen and it is part of Marvel's phase two of movies, which will be kicked off by Iron Man 3 next week.

Speaking to HeyUGuys the director said: "In some ways yes, but in some ways no. In terms of a lot of stuff we’re very much like The Avengers, where it’s a very big, huge movie.

"It’s different because it’s cosmic, it’s in outer space, it’s very colourful.

"We have a whole history of science fiction behind us that we’re dealing with, and borrowing from, and also fighting with to create something unique.

"But at the same time there’s a lot of stuff it has in common with The Avengers."

A full cast list is yet to be announced by Chris Pratt and Michael Rooker are aboard the movie.

The movie is slated for an August 2014 release.
