James Gunn has revealed that he has completed the first draft of the already highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Gunn was in the director's chair for the first film last year - which went on to be a huge critical and commercial hit - and will be returning to the helm for the sequel.
He announced earlier this year that he was about to start work on the first draft of the script... and now that first draft is in the can.
He took to Twitter to announce that the first draft had indeed been completed, writing: "Phew. 1st draft. #GotG2 #NoSpoilers #NotEventheTitle."
He later shared the above photo on Facebook adding: "After 48 days straight without a day off, the first draft of #GotG2 is done. I'm sorry to all my friends and family who I have ignored."
However, Gunn would not give any little teasers away as to what we can expect from the second film, which is not set to hit the big screen until 2017.
While no official cast has yet been announced for the film, the likes of Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana are expected to return. News of the completion of the first draft comes just days after Pratt - who takes on the role of Peter Quill in the franchise - hinted that we may see him pop up in other Marvel movies in the future.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be one of three Marvel films set to hit the big screen in 2017 - Thor: Ragnarok and a new Spider-Man film are also set for release.
Guardians of the Galaxy grossed in excess of $774 million when it hit the big screen last year and is currently the fourth highest grossing Marvel movie - behind Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy is released 28th April 2017 in the UK.
