Taking the inspirational real-life story of Jeff Bauman and bringing it to the big screen, with renowned actor Jake Gyllenhaal stepping into the leading role, Stronger will bring to audiences the truth behind an ordinary man’s unfortunate injuries following the infamous 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. You can now see the first look trailer for the film below:
At 27-years-old, Boston local Jeff is a working-class, every-day person, who still holds a flame for his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatiana Maslany). Hearing that she’ll be competing at the 2013 Boston Marathon, he waits for his ex at the finish line, but when the blast occurs he’s caught up in the centre of the chaos and loses both of his legs in the attack.
Regaining consciousness in the hospital a short while later, Jeff has to deal with the news of his life-changing injuries whilst also helping authorities to identify one of the bombers, with the start of a very personal battle and his biggest challenge ever taking place.
Jeff has to devote months of his life to both physical and mental rehabilitation following the attack, with his ex, Erin and his family supporting him along the way. Of course, the challenges are there for everybody in Jeff’s life and as bonds are tested like never before, a community’s pride inspires the man’s inner courage to overcome devastating trauma, adversity and a life that he never thought he would live.
Though raw and emotional throughout, Stronger is a film also packed full of humour and humanity, telling the tale of the man who became the real-life embodiment of the phrase ‘Boston Strong’.
Also starring Miranda Richardson and with David Gordon Green sitting in the Director’s Chair, Stronger hits cinemas across the UK on December 8, 2017.
