Jake Gyllenhaal thinks Ryan Reynolds was "brilliant" in 'Deadpool'.
The 40-year-old actor may have been snubbed by the Oscar nominations for his performance as Wade Wilson and his titular alter-ego, but fellow actor Jake thinks the star gave a "brilliant performance" which he believes no other actor could have pulled off.
He said: "Ryan Reynolds in 'Deadpool'.
"We talk about brilliant performances all the time, you know, the actors who tear themselves apart for their roles, which I'm a believer in. But then I look at Ryan Reynolds in 'Deadpool' and I say, 'No one can do that but him.'
"That is truly, purely him. As an artist he struggled for several years to figure that out and it's all there on the screen. And it's brilliant."
And the 36-year-old actor - who will star alongside Ryan in sci-fi fantasy 'Life' when it hits theatres in March - says 'Deadpool' shouldn't be written off as just another comic book movie, as Ryan's performance was "extraordinary".
He added to Entertainment Weekly: "Sure it's a comic book movie and it's made a lot of money -- but that doesn't subtract from Ryan's extraordinary work. Because it's him. I mean, let's ask ourselves: What else do we want from people who create? Something that is truly them."
Earlier this month, Ryan confirmed he wants to play Deadpool for "as long" as he can.
The Hollywood star first donned the red and black skin-tight suit in 2009 for an appearance in 'X Men Origins: Wolverine' before getting his own eponymously titled movie last year.
He said: "I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool. We have outlines and stories for a number of different films."
