The 49-year-old actor stars as Jonathan Barnavelt in the fantasy thriller movie - which is an adaptation of John Bellairs' 1973 book of the same name - and has said that despite not reading the source material until he got the part, he found the plot "magical", and loved being a part of the cast.

When asked exclusively by BANG Showbiz if he had read the John Bellair novel whilst at the premiere of the flick in London on Wednesday (05.09.18), Jack said: "I never read any of the books by John Bellairs but I did read this book once I got the part. I loved the script and I wanted to read to book to obviously tell you that I have read the book and also to see what differences there were and the sorts of material.

"And it's a magical book and it's a really fantastic script adaptation because the guy who did the adaptation, Eric Kripke, fantastic writer and he loved this book so much he had been wanting to do an adaptation since he was a kid and read the book for the first time so it was a really cool project and a really cool experience for me."

The story follows 10-year-old Lewis (played by Owen Vaccaro), who goes to live with his uncle Jonathan in a creaky old house, and discovers his relative is actually a warlock who lives next door to a powerful witch named Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett).

The movie also stars Kyle MacLachlan and Renée Elise Goldsberry as married villainous couple Isaac and Selena Izard.

'The House with a Clock in Its Walls' hits cinemas on September 21.
