Hugh Jackman has heaped praise on director Bryan Singer, saying that he has been a driving force in the superhero genre.
Jackman is set to reunite with Singer for the first time since X2 as he reprises the role of Wolverine in X-Men: The Days of Future Past.
Speaking to Access Hollywood the actor said: "I keep saying it's like two movies in one but the size of it, it's like three in one.
"Few people credit Bryan for what he deserves credit for, which is really inventing that genre. There wasn't really a superhero genre before X-Men came out.
"The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what's going to hook people and make them care. That's what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that."
The movie will see character from X-Men: First Class return, while favourites from the original franchise are also back.
Jackman is joined on the cast list by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Halle Berry.
But before we see Jackman back as Wolverine he will be returning to the big screen in hard-hitting drama Prisoners.
The movie was met with rave reviews when it was screened at the Toronto Film Festival, and it is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 22nd May 2014.
