Hugh Jackman has described Wolverine as the ultimate outsider.
The actor reprises the role of the clawed reluctant hero this week in The Wolverine.
The movie sees the much loved Japanese comic story arc brought to the big screen, as Wolverine faces his ultimate test.
Jackman has played this character since 2000, and he says that Wolverine's greatest battle is always with himself.
Speaking to Flicks and Bits the actor said: "Wolverine is the ultimate outsider. Everything about him is distrustful of groups, of organizations.
"He marches to the beat of his own drum, and at the beginning of The Wolverine he's probably more isolated than you've ever seen Wolverine."
"The great battle with Wolverine is the battle within himself, and his real strength and power is from this bed of rage that really turns him into an animal - like a monster.
"It's difficult for him to control and it's almost impossible for anybody else to control, or combat.
"It's that wonderful thing about X-Men where everybody's power is also their flaw. That's amazing to explore as an actor."
The Wolverine is the second stand alone movie for this character, and sees Jackman reunite with director James Mangold.
But we are also going to be seeing him return next year as he rejoins the X-Men fold for X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The Wolverine is out now.
