Hugh Jackman is believed to be in talk about reprising the role of Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Jackman returned to the popular character this summer when he starred in X-Men: Days of Future past, which brought together characters from the original and new franchise for the first time. And we could be seeing him back in this role again.
Jackman is the only actor to have appeared in all of the X-Men movie since X-Men hit the big screen, but he couldn’t confirm that he would be back. However, he did say that there were some exciting things on the horizon.
Speaking to The Happy Sad Podcast, the actor said: There’s still a lot unknown about that, actually. "I have been speaking to the guys and I'm not at liberty to say exactly what's going on, [but] there are some very exciting things about integrating the whole X-Men world, including the Wolverine movie. There are some really cool things going on."
X-Men: Apocalypse will see Bryan Singer back in the director’s chair, while Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will be back as Magneto, Charles Xavier, Mystique, and Beast. We are also going to see Oscar Isaac join the franchise for the first time, as he is set to take on the role of Apocalypse. We also expect to see Channing Tatum introduced as Gambit for the first time before he goes on to star in his own solo movie.
Filming is set to get underway on the film next year ahead of its 2016 release. It will come two years after the critical and commercial success of Days of Future Past this summer. Meanwhile, 'The Wolverine' sequel is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
As for Jackman, Days of Future Past was the last time that we saw him on the big screen but he has completed work on Broadway 4D, Chappie and Pan. Chappie will see him team up with director Neill Blomkamp for the first time in a brand new sci-fi film that will also star Sharlto Copley and Sigourney Weaver.
Pan is also set to be one of the summer movies that is not to be missed as Joe Wright returns to the director’s chair. The movie is a re-telling of the Peter Pan story and will see Jackman take on the role of Blackbeard - the first time that we have really seen him play a villain on screen.
X-Men: Apocalypse is released 19th May 2016.
