Hugh Jackman has hinted that he may be ready to hang up the Wolverine claws.
Jackman has played the character since X-Men back in 2000 – a role that propelled him to stardom – but he admits that if a third solo film goes ahead, it could well be the last time we see him play this iconic character.
Speaking to SFX, the actor said: "I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one".
"I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me".
This is not the first time that Jackman has talked about walking away from the character, saying that another actor eventually taking over was inevitable, earlier this year.
A third Wolverine movie is expected to hit the big screen in 2017, and will James Mangold back in the director’s chair.
Jackman will be back as Wolverine later this month as he teams up with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart for the highly anticipated X-Men: Day of Future Past.
Jackman is the only actor to have appeared in all of the X-Men movie: playing a major role in X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, before going on to have two solo movies. He also made a terrific cameo in X-Men: First Class.
