Hugh Jackman says it is the 'right time' to leave the role of Wolverine behind.
Jackman took to Twitter back in March to say that he would be playing the role one final time in Wolverine 3 - he has not confirmed that he will be leaving the role behind.
The third Wolverine movie will see Jackson reunite with director James Mangold and is set to hit the big screen at the beginning of 2017.
Speaking on The Dr Oz Show, the actor said: "It is my last time," he said. "It felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.
"I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."
It was back 2000 when Jackman took on the role of Wolverine for the first time in X-Men and he is the only actor to have appeared in all of the X-Men movies over the years.
We last saw Jackman take on the role of Wolverine last year in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which went on to be both a critical and commercial success. Whether we are going to see the actor in X-Men: Apocalypse is still uncertain.
Wolverine 3 will be the first solo film for the popular character since The Wolverine back in 2013 - the first time that Mangold had tackled an X-Men movie.
We have already seen Jackman on the big screen this year in sci-fi film Chappie and we are going to be seeing plenty more of him during the rest of this year.
Jackman has already completed work on Broadway 4D and Pan - a movie that has to be pushed back to an autumn release. He is currently filming Eddie the Eagle.
Eddie the Eagle will follow the true story of Great Britain's first ski jumper at the Winter Olympics. Taron Egerton will play Eddie Edwards, while Jackman is set to play Chuck Berghorn in the film. Dexter Fletcher is in the director's chair.
The third Wolverine film is set for a 2nd March 2017 UK release date.
