Hugh Grant enjoyed taking on the baddie roles in Cloud Atlas because it is something that he hasn't had the chance to do for some time.
We are going to be seeing the actor take on a wide range of roles in Cloud Atlas when it hits the big screen this week in what is set to be one of the most daring movies of his career.
The film is a big screen adaptation of the David Mitchell novel of the same name and Grant will play six different roles in the film.
Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "It was fun. In the first early days of my career before Four Weddings (And A Funeral) I did play quite a lot of villains and I haven't done them for a long time, I got stuck in a rut of playing relatively nice guys.
"I suppose there were a few, like Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones, but nothing like this, these are killers and rapists and I felt I had to do it."
Grant is joined on the cast list by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving and Jim Broadbent, all also playing multiple roles, while Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski direct.
It has been quite a while since we saw Grant on the big screen - Did You Hear About The Morgans? being his last film but he did lend his voice to The Pirates! In an Adventures with Scientists.
Cloud Atlas is released 22nd February.
