Henry Cavill says that Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is not a sequel to Man of Steel but a 'separate entity altogether.'
Cavill is set to reprise the role of Superman for the second time in Dawn of Justice, which will see him come face to face with Ben Affleck's Batman for the first time.
Dawn of Justice looks set to be the bigger superhero movie Warner have ever brought to the big screen and kicks off the journey to finally getting a Justice League film.
Speaking to MTV, the actor said: "I wouldn't call this a Superman sequel. This is Batman v Superman, so it's a separate entity altogether.
"It's introducing the Batman character, and expanding upon this universe, which was kicked off by Man of Steel... It's an introduction to the character, and ultimately an introduction to Justice League."
Dawn of Justice will be the first time that we see Affleck take over the role of Batman and the first time that we have see this character on the big screen since The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012.
Earlier this week we were treated to the first character posters from the movie - featuring Cavill and Affleck as Superman and Batman - as well as the first teaser trailer for the film. The studio was forced to release the trailer a couple of days earlier than originally planned because it was leaked online.
Dawn of Justice is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016, and will also see Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Lex Luthor introduced to us. It will be the first time we have seen them in the new franchise and will see Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Jesse Eisenberg take on these roles from the first time. Wonder Woman and Aquaman have already got solo movies lined up.
As for Cavill, he will be back on the big screen this summer as he teams up with Armie Hammer and director Guy Ritchie for Man From U.N.C.L.E. Cavill will take on the role of Napoleon Solo as the hit sixties television show is brought to the big screen.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. will be the first time that Cavill has worked with Ritchie and the first time that we have seen him on the big screen since the success of Man of Steel.
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March 2016.
