Helen Mirren says that she and Anthony Hopkins worked well together whilst filming Hitchcock.

The pair play Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville in the new film about their relationship - which is set during the making of Psycho.

It is the first time that Mirren has teamed up with the fellow Oscar winner and she described him as an 'immensely supportive' actor.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "We worked really, really well together and I think it's because we come from a similar background of acting.

"We both come from the theatre to start off with, so we both knew how to give each other room to work, the kind of support the other person needed.

"He was absolutely wonderful to work with, immensely supportive of his fellow actors, always in a good humour even though it's really, really irritating sometimes to have to wear that sort of make-up, body suit and stuff like that. He was great."

Mirren has picked up Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her depiction of Alma Reville in the film - a woman who worked closely with her husband whilst he made his movies.

And Mirren is set to star alongside Hopkins for a second time this year as Red 2 hits the big screen.

Mirren will reprise the role of Victoria in the sequel with Bruce Willis and John Malkovich while Hopkins is one of the new faces on the cast list.
