Harvey Weinstein has praised the performance of Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game, and says it was crucial to get the tone of the film right.
The Imitation Game follows the story of Alan Turing and the cracking of the Enigma code during the Second World War; Cumberbatch takes on the role of Turing in the film.
And Weinstein says that he was thrilled with the performance that the British actor delivered in the biopic film.
Speaking to Deadline, Weinstein said: “Alan Turing is not outwardly very sympathetic. He's brilliant, but the way that Benedict Cumberbatch played him showed us these guys found the right level of vulnerability, genius and the arrogance of the character, too.
"We felt after reading the script that you could get this wrong, from the tone to the casting. The reason we didn't make it ourselves was, it felt like a near impossible walk on a tightrope. Morten walked the tightrope."
The Weinstein Company reportedly paid $7 million for the rights to the film, and brought Morten Tyldum on board to direct. This is the first film for Tyldum since the success of Headhunters.
Cumberbatch leads an all-star cast as Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong and Charles Dance are all on board.
The Imitation Game is released later this year.
