Paramount Pictures have allowed Transformers fans a look at their next big screen project this week, releasing a first look image from upcoming picture Bumblebee, featuring Hailee Steinfeld in the role of Charlie. You can check out the stunning picture below:
Taking place all the way back in 1987, the film will follow Bumblebee as they’re on the run, before finding refuge in a small Californian beach town’s junkyard. There, Bumblebee is discovered by Charlie (Steinfeld); a young woman who’s close to turning 18 and still finding her place in the world.
Putting her brain to work and bringing Bumblebee back from the battle-scarred and broken carcass that he has become, Charlie soon realises that she’s come face-to-face with no ordinary yellow VW bug, but an entirely different entity altogether.
Directed by Travis Knight, Bumblebee features such stars as Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow and Grace Dzienny alongside Steinfeld.
Knight previously told Empire: “I wanted to approach this massive, expansive franchise and really focus in on a tiny corner of the canvas. Everything I’ve tried to do at Laika, searching for an artful blend of darkness and light, intensity and warmth, humour and heart, I wanted to bring to the Transformers franchise.”
Franchise veterans Michael Bay and Lorenzo di Bonaventura make their returns as producers, with Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian all serving as executive producers, alongside Chris Brigham. Christina Hodson has written the Bumblebee screenplay.
Though we’ve now got our first glimpse of the film, we’ve got just under a year to wait until the picture eventually makes its way to the big screen. For now, though, our appetites are well and truly whetted! We can’t wait to jump back into the Transformers universe all over again.
Bumblebee will be released in cinemas on December 26, 2018.
