Gwendoline Christie is to star in 'The Darkest Minds'.
The 'Game of Thrones' actress plays Captain Phasma in the new 'Star Wars' trilogy and she is going to stay in the sci-fi genre for her next project, which is based on Alexandra Bracken's Young Adult series of books.
Christie will join Amandla Stenberg and Mandy Moore in the project which is being directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson in what will be her first live-action movie after she helmed the second and third installments in the 'Kung Fu Panda' series.
The plot focuses on a post-apocalyptic America in which 98 per cent of the country's children have been killed by a disease with the remaining two per cent developing superhuman powers.
The worried government rounds up the kids with extraordinary abilities and places them in internment camps for the safety of themselves and those around them.
Stenberg, 18, is to play 16-year-old Ruby who escapes the camp with a group of her fellow super-powered teens and Christie, 38, is going to portray the bounty hunter hired to track them down and capture them.
'The Darkest Minds' is scheduled to hit cinemas in late 2018.
Christie will be reprising her role as Captain Phasma in 'Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi', which is released this December.
The British actress will be seen again as Brienne of Tarth when Season 7 of 'Game of Thrones' airs from July.
