Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he has submitted the script for Pacific Rim 2 and he is waiting to hear from the studio.
There has been a lot of talk about a possible sequel to the 2013 film and it is still up in the air as to whether the project will go ahead.
Taking to Twitter, de Toro said: "PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling."
Universal/Legendary have now got to make up their mind as to whether or not to give the movie the green light.
Del Toro returned to the director's chair earlier this month with gothic horror Crimson Peak, which saw him reunite with actor Charlie Hunnam; the duo worked together on Pacific Rim.
The movie also saw del Toro work with Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain for the first time.
Pacific Rim is not the only sequel that is potentially floating around for the filmmaker as there also been a lot of noise about Hellboy 3 this year.
While fans and actor Ron Perlman really want to see Hellboy return to the big screen, there is still no word as to whether the film will go ahead.
It was back in 2008 when Hellboy II: The Golden Army was released and del Toro has already teased that the third film would be the biggest in the series.
