Guillermo del Toro says he is still working on the Pacific Rim sequel.
Earlier this week it has been reported that Pacific Rim 2, which would see del Toro return to the director's chair, had been put on hold by Universal Pictures and there was talk of the movie not going ahead at all.
However, del Toro, who directed the first film back in 2013, says that he's set to turn in a script and the project is not 'gone.'
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker did give an update on the project; "We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I'm concerned, it's not gone. We're still on it."
Cameras were supposed to start rolling on Pacific Rim 2 this November ahead of its summer 2017 release - it looks like that will now no longer happen.
In fact, del Toro hinted that he may even go and make another film before returning to this franchise. He continued: It moved further. I may do another movie in the middle."
Pacific Rim grossed $411 million at the global box office back in 2013 and it did come as a surprise when the studio backed a sequel. While we know del Toro is in the director's chair, there is still no word as to who we could potentially see on the cast list.
As for del Toro, his new film Crimson Peak is set to hit the big screen this autumn as he teams up with Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain while reuniting with Charlie Hunnam.
No one does gothic horror quite like del Toro and Crimson Peak looks set to be a chilling edge of your seat ride.
There has also been a lot of talk about the possibility of a third Hellboy movie this year, but there is still no real word as to whether this movie will go ahead. I don't know about you, but I would rather see a third Hellboy film than a second Pacific Rim movie.
