James Gunn has revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will take place before events of Captain America: Civil War.
Gunn is back in the director's chair for the Marvel sequel, which will hit the big screen three years after the success of the first film.
But this new film is going to mess with the MCU timeline a little because events are set closely after the end of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gunn was asked "How long will it take Groot to grow back to full size? In the comics it only took him 2 hours... btw huge fan of slither" by a fan on Facebook.
He replied: "Definitely not two hours since this movie takes place two months after the first one end"
When asked: "In 2014???" by another fan, Gunn replied: "Yep."
Filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 has wrapped and the movie is now in post-production.
The movie sees Gunn reunite with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker. While Elizabeth Debicki, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, and Pom Klementieff are some of the big new additions to the cast list.
While specific elements are being kept under wraps, we know that the movie will explore the parentage of Peter Quill.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 looks set to be one of the biggest Marvel movies of 2017 and is the first of three to hit the big screen.
It will be followed by Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok - both of which are filming at the moment.
While we still have not got the Avengers: Infinity War cast list confirmed, last week Vin Diesel revealed that the Guardians will be making an appearance in the upcoming film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
