Johnny Depp is set to return to the big screen this November as he plays infamous gangster Whitey Bulger in new film Black Mass.
Black Mass sees Depp return to the gangster genre for the first time since Public Enemies - in which he played John Dillinger - as he teams up with director Scott Cooper for the first time.
Depp leads an all-star cast as Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon, Corey Stoll, Jesse Plemons, Peter Sarsgaard, and Dakota Johnson all on board. And the actors all feature in a brilliant new set of character posters.
We are big fans of director Cooper here at FemaleFirst and Black Mass is set to be the third feature film of his career to date. He has already whipped up a storm and won praise for his work on Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace.
In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster Jimmy Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI in order to eliminate their common enemy: the Italian mob.
The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement while consolidating his power and becoming one of the most ruthless and dangerous gangsters in Boston history.
We are going to be treated to a couple of great looking gangster movies as we head into the autumn - Legend is the other that I am looking forward to - and Black Mass looks set to be a movie not to miss.
I think it is fair to say that Depp has struggled to find great role recently, but, from the trailers so far, he looks to be back on top form and I cannot wait to see him in action.
Black Mass is released 27th November.
