Gravity has made it a second week at the top of the U.S. box office, holding off the challenge from Captain Phillips.
The Alfonso Cuarón directed film took a further $44.2 million over the weekend to comfortably keep Captain Phillips in second place.
Gravity has been lighting up the big screen in London as it screened at the BFI London Film Festival last week - where it was once again met by rave reviews.
Captain Phillips was the highest new entry on the chart this week as it opened at number two, Paul Greengrass is back in the director's chair as he teams up with Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
The movie follows the remarkable true story of Captain Phillips, whose ship is hijacked by Somali pirates.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 slipped just a single place to three this week, while Machete Kills was the second and final new entry inside the top ten at number three.
Runner Runner and Prisoners were both down two places at five and six while Insidious: Chapter 2 was up a place at seven: it was the only film to go up inside the top ten this week.
Rush, Don Jon and Baggage Claim were all down three spots as they rounded off the top ten at eight, nine and ten.
