Grant Heslov has revealed that he has always wanted to make a World War II movie.

Heslov has wrote and produced The Monuments Men; which is a big screen adaptation of the book by Robert M. Edsel

Heslov was on the red carpet in London Last night for the UK premiere of the film.

Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst on the red carpet, the producer said: "I was at the airport and I realised that I had forgotten my book, so I went into the bookstore and saw The Monuments Men. So I started to read it and I thought 'this could make a great film'.

"It was a version of World War II that I knew nothing about. I thought it was fascinating, with great characters and I had always wanted to make a World War II movie.

"We wrote the screenplay with all of these people in mind. We gave them all something nice to do, and then went to them and said 'hey, will you come and do this for us?'"

Heslov has been the long-time collaborator of George Clooney, and together they adapted the book into the screenplay and worked as producers.

The movie marks the return of Clooney to the director's chair for the first time since The Ides of March.

The Monuments Men is released 14th February.
