Gone Girl has held off the challenge from horror movie Annabelle, to take the #1 spot at the U.S. box office.
Gone Girl is a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, and has been locked in a battle to claim the top spot this weekend.
The movie sees David Fincher back in the director's chair, while Ben Affleck is in the central role alongside Rosamund Pike.
Gone Girl is a movie that has been winning over critics and audiences, and took $38 million to hold off Annabelle.
Despite a great box office fight from the horror film, Annabelle had to settle for second this weekend.
The movie is a prequel to last year's The Conjuring, and took $37,2 million in its opening weekend.
The Equalizer fell two places this week after just one week at the top of the box office. The Boxtrolls slipped just a single place from three to four.
The Maze Runner was down three places to round off the top five. The Maze Runner has performed well at the box office and preparation on the sequel is already under way.
Left Behind was the third and final new entry inside the top ten this week at six, while This Is Where I Leave You was down three places from four to seven.
Dolphin Tale 2 fell out of the top five, as it dropped three places to eight. Guardians of the Galaxy was down just a single spot from eight to nine.
Guardians of the Galaxy has so far grossed in excess of $653 million worldwide, and is the seventh highest grossing movie of 2014 so far.
Former number one film No Good Deed rounded off the top ten, as it dropped four places from last week's number six.
