Gone Girl

Gillian Flynn says that David Fincher would have been her choice to direct Gone Girl.

Gone Girl is an adaptation of the Flynn novel and sees Fincher in the director's chair and Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike on the cast list.

Speaking to Empire, Flynn said: "If you had asked me who I wanted to direct Gone Girl, it would have been David."

Flynn has adapted her own novel into the screenplay and worked with Fincher on certain aspects of the story.

And she admits that she was thrilled that Fincher was keen to keep the dark humour that is in the book in the film.

"It was more about the nature of the characters, who they were, and the nature of their marriage. One thing we clicked on immediately was we would keep the dark humour.

"I think a lot of directors would be very nervous about maintaining that. I knew from all of his other films that he wouldn't be afraid to allow that sort of mischievous, dark, nasty humour in it."

Gone Girl is the first of Flynn's novels to be adapted for the big screen, but Dark Places is also on the horizon later this year.

Gone Girl is released 3rd October.
