Ghostbusters has been an iconic franchise since 1984, when the first movie released. It followed four determined New Yorkers who wanted to rid their city of the ghouls that infested it. Now, this year (2021), the legend continues with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
The upcoming movie stars Carrie Coon (Gone Girl), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Mckenna Grace (Scoob!), with Annie Potts (Toy Story franchise) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man and Avengers franchises), and is directed by Jason Reitman (Juno).
Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows a single mother and her two kids as they arrive in a small, quaint town. Once they begin to settle into a rather old home, they begin to discover that they have an interesting connection to one of the original Ghostbusters, and a legacy their grandfather left behind.
While 2016’s Ghostbusters did not go down well with audiences, fans will be happy to know that version of the franchise has no bearing on the upcoming sequel, meaning that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a sequel to the 1989 feature film.
The new international trailer for the upcoming movie is fantastic, to say the least. It opens with a creepy, eerie atmosphere which is carried until the end. It seems to embody what the 80s Ghostbusters films were about, while also bringing a fresh, modern perspective to the table.
This is shown well in the music; while we all know the classic theme tune for this franchise, the trailer showcases it underneath an exciting, thrilling score that has a base of nostalgia, yet welcomes new and old fans alike into what will surely be an amazing experience.
We see a little more of Paul Rudd within this trailer, too. Rudd plays Mr. Grooberson, a high school teacher who appears highly knowledgeable of the original Ghostbusters.
Grooberson ends up embarking on this ghostly adventure with Trevor (Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Grace), and sees what seems to be a demon in a Target store, along with mini Stay Puft marshmallow men (two of which blend their friend), who undoubtably freak the teacher out.
The new trailer is excellent, and lends a more unnerving edge to the movie; not so much that is edges it into horror, but it shows that the movie has combined comedy with the perfect intriguing atmosphere.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be in cinemas on November 18th, 2021.
