Directed by Rupert Sanders, Ghost in the Shell is the upcoming manga-based movie following the journey of a woman saved by a car crash and turned into a cyber-enhanced crime-fighter. Battling some of the world’s most dangerous villains, this flick looks set to be one of the most exciting of the year, but it’s not without its controversy.

The movie’s casting has been criticised, with fans once again pointing out that a white woman is playing a role made for an ethnic minority.

In the leading role of Major Motoko Kusanagi, Scarlett Johansson responded to those criticisms herself and said: “I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive.

“Also, having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that – the weight of such a big property on my shoulders.”

Despite all that, excitement remains at a high and Ghost in the Shell continues to plough towards its release date. This week, two brand new, stunning posters for the flick have been released, which you can see below:

Ghost in the Shell comes to UK cinemas on March 31, 2017.
