George Miller has been named the President of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival jury.

Miller - who directed Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky in last year's 'Mad Max: Fury Road', 36 years after he directed Mel Gibson in the same role - is honoured to be picked by the Jury to helm the festival which runs from May 11 to 22 in the South of France.

Miller, and the rest of the jury, will have the responsibility of choosing the film that will receive the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the end of the festival.

In a statement, Miller shared his excitement about the role, saying: "What an unmitigated delight! To be there in the middle of this storied festival at the unveiling of cinematic treasures from all over the plane. To spend time in passionate discourse with fellow members of the jury. Such an honor. I'll be there with bells on!"

Last year, the festival's board of directors appointed the Coen Brothers - Joel and Ethan - as joint Presidents of the Jury.
