George Clooney has revealed that he wrote the script for The Monuments Men with almost everyone in mind.
Clooney reunited with Grant Heslov for The Monuments Men, which is an adaptation of the book by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter.
Clooney will also star in the film alongside Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray and Jean Dujardin; all of whom Clooney had in mind when he was penning the script.
Speaking to Flicks and Bits, the actor said: "We wrote the parts for everyone, except for Bob Balaban’s character, we didn’t know who that part was for.
"But we ran into Bob at a party and I looked at Grant and said, 'That’s the guy Bill Murray should be giving a hard time to.' But then the rest of them we wrote it for them and we sent them the story.
"Bill is a good friend. John Goodman I’d worked with before a number of times, back on ‘Roseanne’ even. I had worked with him producing ‘Argo’ and on that film I called him up and pitched him the project.
"Jean Dujardin I had got to know during the year of ‘The Descendants’ and ‘The Artist,’ during the whole awards season run.
"All these guys are basically friends of mine and I asked them if they’d like to play for a few months, and thankfully they all said yes."
The Monuments Men is the first directorial outing for Clooney since political thriller The Ides of March. It is also his first big screen outing since the success of Gravity.
Clooney is currently working on Tomorrowland, with director Brad Bird.
The Monuments Men is released 14th February.
