Gary Oldman says he was drawn to RoboCop because he thought the script was 'fun'.

Oldman is back on the big screen this week in the new RoboCop, a film that sees him work with director Jose Padilha for the first time.

Speaking on the red carpet at the world premiere in London last night, the actor said; "This film wasn't on my list of things to do but in came in and I read it and I thought it was fun, and I like José the director, he was a charmer."

Oldman is part of an all-star line up as Joel Kinnaman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley are all also on board.

Talking about the original film, Oldman says the 1987 movie is more violent then their remake: "I saw the original when it came out. I haven't seen it since.

"It was more of a horror I remember - it was more violent and had more gore than ours."

RoboCop is the first film that we are going to be seeing Oldman in this year, as he has a very busy 2014 ahead of him.

He is also set to star in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Child 44.

RoboCop is released 7th February.
