Kinberg is set to serve as the producer on the solo Gambit film, which would see Channing Tatum take on the role of the first time.

While we did see Gambit make an appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this will be the first time that we have really see this character explored on the big screen.

And Kinberg says that the script is nearly finished and filming could start as early as the end of the year.

Speaking to Flickering Myth, the producer said: "We just didn't get the script to the place where we all thought the movie deserved. So we're still working on the script.

"We're very close, actually to being done with the script, and the hope is that Channing [Tatum, signed on to star in the film] has a couple of movies he has to shoot, but that we would shoot at the end of this year or the beginning of next year."

Tatum will take on the role of Remy LeBeau aka Gambit and is the only actor currently on the cast list.

Doug Liman is in the director's chair for the film, which will be the first time that the actor has teamed up with the filmmaker.

Gambit is the second of two solo X-Men movies in the pipeline as we are also going to see Wolverine 3 hit the big screen. A Deadpool sequel has already been given the green light.

Kinberg is also set to serve as the producer on Wolverine 3 and the Deadpool sequel.

There's still no word on when we might see Gambit hit the big screen.
