Freddie Highmore says he has doubts about wanting to commit to acting full time.
The actor has made the switch to the small screen with new show Bates Motel; which sees him team up with Vera Farmiga.
He may be enjoying all of this success but he reveals that he has still kept his studies going and acting has never been his sole focus.
Speaking to PA the actor said: "I probably still have it now, that thing of not wanting to commit to something for the rest of your life. Saying this is what I want to be forever is a big step, especially at 12 years old.
"I didn't want to be forced into thinking this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. And still now, it would be great to carry on acting and to do more things, but I've kept my studies going and the tricky thing is I've always had something alongside acting.
"Acting has almost never been the focus of my life so it is a big shift to say that acting will be the main thing that you're doing as opposed to something that fits in really well with your normal life back at home."
Bates Motel sees the actor take on the role of Norman Bates a brand new re-telling of the well known Psycho story.
He also returned to the big screen last week as he lent his voice to animation Justin and the Knights of Valour.
