Forest Whitaker is in talks to team up with Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw.
Southpaw is the upcoming boxing drama from director Antoine Fuqua, and has been written by Kurt Sutter.
Gyllenhaal will play the central role of a boxer who, despite being successful in the ring, faces personal struggles as he tries to connect with his daughter.
According to The Wrap, Whitaker is in talks to play a former fighter turned trainer.
Southpaw will mark the return of Fuqua to the director's chair for the first time since action film Olympus Has Fallen.
As for Whitaker, he is currently working on Taken 3, as he has joined the franchise for the first time.
He also has The Shack and A Fall From Grace in the pipeline.
Filming on Southpaw looks set to get underway in the summer.
