We are big fans of Meryl Streep here at FemaleFirst and the Oscar winner is set to return to the big screen this spring with her new film Florence Foster Jenkins, in which she takes on the title and real-life role.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins

Streep is no stranger to playing real people with Margaret Thatcher and Emmeline Pankhurst under her belt in recent years in The Iron Lady and Suffragette; for the former she received her third Oscar and her second Best Actress win. And it looks like Florence Foster Jenkins is going to be another terrific performance from the popular star.

The film sees Streep team up with filmmaker Stephen Frears for the first time as he returns to the director's chair for his first project since The Program. Much like Streep, Frears is no stranger to the biopic having been at the helm of The Program, Philomena, and The Queen during his career.

We are going to have to wait until May for Florence Foster Jenkins to hit the big screen but the first teaser trailer for the film has finally been unveiled and we have it for you to take a look:

Frears has worked with some terrific actors during his career and he has assembled another great line-up as Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg, Rebecca, Ferguson, Nina Arianda, and Christian McKay will all star alongside Streep.

The comedy drama tells the inspirational true story of the eponymous New York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The film celebrates the human spirit, the power of music and the passion of amateurs everywhere.

The voice Florence (Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world it was hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield (Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give her first public concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, St Clair realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.

I have always loved Streep as a comedy actress and it is great to see her return to this genre with her latest film - I really cannot wait to see her in action.

Florence Foster Jenkins is released 6th May.
