Felicity Jones has described The Theory of Everything as an ‘incredibly unique love story’ between Stephen and Jane Hawking.
Jones is set to take on the role of Jane in the already acclaimed movie, who met and fell in love with Stephen while they were both at university - they would go on to marry and she would help him face the diagnosis of his motor neurone disease.
The Theory of Everything is based on Jane’s memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, which chronicles their thirty-year marriage. And while the couple ended up going their separate ways, Jones says that there was a strong bond between them.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz, the actress said: "It's an incredibly unique love story and Stephen and Jane are both such phenomenal people and when you meet them, they're so witty. You know, there's nothing that you can say that can compete.
"They're really sharp, sharp people, so we wanted to bring that humour that they both have into the film."
Eddie Redmayne takes on the central role of Hawking as he teams up with Jones for the first time, and the pair were on the red carpet for the premiere in London earlier this week. The pair have been winning rave reviews for their central performances and are contenders to be in the Oscar race.
Redmayne and Jones are both tipped for a Best Actor and a Best Actress Oscar nomination for their work - it would be a first Oscar nomination for both of them and will send their stars rocketing even further.
The Theory of Everything marks the return of James Marsh to the director’s chair, who has been behind documentaries such as Man on Wire and Project Nim. However, this is his first live action movie since Shadow Dancer back in 2012. Anthony McCarten is also aboard the project and has adapted Jane’s book into a screenplay.
As for Jones, The Theory of Everything is just one movie that we are going to be seeing her star in next year, as she has also completed work on True Story and Autobahn.
True Story is based on the memoir by Michael Finkel and will see Jones team up with filmmaker Rupert Gould for a film that is based on the relationship between journalist Michael Finkel and FBI’s most wanted Christian Longo.
Jones is currently working on A Monster Calls, which will also star Liam Neeson, Toby Kebbell, and Sigourney Weaver, while J.A. Bayona is in the director’s chair.
The Theory of Everything is released 1st January 2015.
