Jones has been winning critical acclaim for her role as Jane Hawking in the biopic and was one of five Brits to pick up an Oscar nomination when they were revealed yesterday.

Jones was recognised in the Best Actress category in what was the first Oscar nomination of her career.

Speaking about her nomination, the actress said: "I'm overwhelmed at this incredible news. This is a huge, huge honour.

"My deepest gratitude to the members of the Academy. I'll look forward to celebrating this with everyone involved in The Theory Of Everything. Thank you so much."

This Oscar nod comes after picking up Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Award and Bafta Awards. However, she did miss out at the Golden Globes at the weekend as Julianne Moore won for Still Alice.

Moore was nominated alongside Jones yesterday, as was Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Reese Witherspoon (Wild), and Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night).

There was more great news for The Theory of Everything as it picked up five Oscar nominations in all, it also received nods for Best Actor for Eddie Redmayne, Best Motion Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay for Anthony McCarten, and Best Original Score for Johann Johansson.

The Theory of Everything is out now.
