James Wan says that Fast & Furious 7 is going to be a 'classic revenge story'.

Wan takes over the director's chair from Justin Lin for the seventh instalment of the hit franchise.

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson are back while Jason Statham will play the villain this time around.

Speaking to Playlist the director said: "I really like the theme of this next one that we’re going with. I can’t really talk about it, but I like the theme; it’s one that I really relate to.

"Then there’s the drive of Number Seven, which was set up at the end of Number Six, which is a classic revenge story.

"I’m a big [genre] fan, so that’s how I’m approaching ['Fast & Furious 7']: I’m looking at it like a gritty, ’70s revenge thriller, but one that still fits into the ‘Fast and Furious’ series."

Statham's villain was set up at the end of Fast & Furious 6 and filming is set to get underway sometime this year.

As for Wan we will be seeing two of his movies hit the big screen before the end of the year as The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2 are both on the horizon.

Fast & Furious 7 is released next summer
