Eric Bana says that he had his 'eyes opened' to the cultural and religious aspects of exorcism while working on Deliver Us From Evil.
Deliver Us From Evil sees Bana return to the big screen this week as he teams up with director Scott Derrickson.
The movie sees Bana play a police office who must join forces with a priest to solve a series of crimes. And the actor admits that it was a learning curve for him.
"It definitely opened my eyes to the cultural and religious aspects to exorcism.
"It's far more comfortable to be dismissive and muck around and joke about it, but it's far more confronting to look at the factual side of it.
"I had to be really open to it, and I was skeptical which worked for the film."
The movie marks the first time that Bana has worked with Derrickson, but the director is no stranger to horror with the likes of Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose under his belt.
Deliver Us From Evil is out now.
