Emma Stone will play Rosemary Kennedy in 'Letters From Rosemary'.
Stone is set to star as the elder sister to brothers President John F. Kennedy, Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.
Rosemary was known for her beauty and grace but had notable learning disabilities and suffered from mood swings that were hidden from friends and people outside the family.
She underwent one of the first prefrontal lobotomies at the age of 23 to try and held her with her mental disability.
The decision to go ahead with the first procedure - which involved a surgical incision made in the brain through the top of skull - was made by Rosemary's father Joseph P. Kennedy, who did not inform her mother Rose until after it was carried out.
Afterwards, Rosemary was left permanently incapacitated and was institutionalised, requiring care for the rest of her life.
When she was young, Rose kept a detailed diary throughout the 1930s which was published in the 1980s and the words reveal a young woman whose life was filled with lavish social outings, dress fittings and tea dances.
The movie will focus on the months leading up to the procedure and how the family were affected afterwards.
Despite her condition, Rosemary outlived her younger brothers John and Robert, who were assassinated in 1963 and 1968 respectively, and she died at the age of 86 in a hospital in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, U.S.
'Spotlight' producers Steve Golin and Doug Wald are set to produce the title.
Emma is also reportedly being considered for the role of Cruella de Vil from Disney's '101 Dalmatians' in new movie, 'Cruella'.
The live-action film will be an origin story of the evil character and will likely show viewers what caused her to become a villain obsessed with obtaining the hides of the dalmatians in the beloved story.
