Emma Stone says that it wasn't the 'right time' to commit to a big franchise such as Ghostbusters.
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon are all on board the film and Stone was one of the names that was banded around during the casting process.
And while the Oscar nominated actress reveals that she did indeed see the script - and find it 'really funny' - she need more time away from a big franchise.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the actress said: "The script was really funny. It just didn't feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment--it's a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water."
Ghostbusters will see Paul Feig back in the director's chair as he reunites with McCarthy for what will be their fourth film project together - they have already enjoyed huge success with Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy.
Chris Hemsworth has been the latest addition to the film, and will play the receptionist for the Ghostbusters in the film.
As for Stone, she has just stepped away from The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, where she played Gwen Stacey in two movies. She has already enjoyed huge success this year as her performance in Birdman earnt her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
She will be back on UK cinema screen later this year with Aloha, which sees her star alongside Bradley Cooper and Rachel McAdams. She has also teamed up with fellow Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix for Irrational Man.
Irrational Man will see her reunite with director Woody Allen for what will be their second film together; they have already worked on Magic in the Moonlight.
And Stone has called working with the director 'terrifying,' she continued: "It's terrifying. He doesn't do table reads or any rehearsal. You can't even ask questions about your character, because he'll be like, 'You know this is a movie, right?'"
