Emma Stone says she had never fallen in love on screen before working with Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider Man.
Stone and Garfield, who have been dating since 2011, have been described as the new Audrey Hepburn and Spencer Tracy by Marvel's studio boss, Avi Arad, and Emma agrees with the comparison.
Stone told The Guardian newspaper's G2: "I could relate to that feeling, that all-encompassing, you'll-die-for-this-person first love.
"It's everything I felt in my first relationship, that total Romeo and Juliet story played out. I never had an opportunity to fall in love like that in a movie before."
The 25-year-old star, who plays Gwen Stacy alongside Garfield's Spider-Man, relates to her character because she claims she was "ambitious" when she was young.
She explained: "Gwen is clear on what she wants to do with her life - in terms of her job and her sense of purpose. I think and hope that I am in the same ballpark there.
"Science-wise, though, she is much better than me."
Stone has since grown accustomed to the attention which comes with her role in superhero franchise, although she admits she still finds certain aspects strange.
She said: "More work has come my way and it has compromised my anonymity. That loss is weird, I get to hear my name a lot more, 'Emma! Emma!' it's a bit odd."
