Emma Donoghue says she is 'over the moon' after receiving a Best Adapted Screenplay Bafta nomination for her work on Room.
Room is based on Donoghue's own novel of the same name and the author has adapted her own book into a screenplay. The Best Adapted Screenplay was one of two Bafta nominations for the film, as Brie Larson picked up her first Best Actress Bafta nod for her central performance in the film.
Speaking about the nomination, Donoghue said: "I'm over the moon to be nominated for a BAFTA for Adapted Screenplay for Room. As a first-timer, to find myself in the company of such superb scriptwriters is an honour I'll never forget.
"But much of the credit should go to our extraordinary director Lenny Abrahamson, my teacher and mentor in filmcraft. I'm also delighted that BAFTA has recognised the astounding performance of Brie Larson."
Best Actress is one of the toughest categories at this year's Baftas as Larson is nominated alongside Cate Blanchett, Maggie Smith, Alicia Vikander, and Saoirse Ronan for Carol, The Lady in the Van, The Danish Girl, and Brooklyn.
Room is a movie that has been winning over critics and audiences in the U.S. and it will be hitting the big screen here in the UK next week.
The movie, which sees Lenny Abrahamson back in the director's chair, has already picked up three Golden Globe nominations - including Best Picture/Drama - and two nominations at the Screen Actors Guild awards.
As well as a Best Actress nod for Larson on Friday morning, the American actress is also in the mix for the EE Rising Star Award - the only Bafta that is voted for by the public.
Once again, the EE Rising Star Award is a tough one as Larson is nominated alongside John Boyega, Taron Egerton, Bel Powley, and Dakota Johnson.
Room was the seventh novel for Donoghue and came after the likes of Life Mask, Landing, and The Sealed Letter.
The Bafta winners will be announced on Sunday 14 February. Room is released 15th January.
